Waste to Energy Plant WTE Lucerne
The longest operating experience of Explosion Generators is available from the waste to energy plant of Lucerne where 8 Explosion Generators are installed.
By November 2010 about 100,000 explosions were carried out. Besides the explosion generators no other cleaning equipment is in operation. A total number of 20 soot blowers were removed and 1 shot cleaning system was stopped.
Detail Information for Boiler 1 and 2 (Capacity: 10 MW each):
Pretests were carried out from summer 2008 on boiler 2.
In February 2009, the 6 pressurized air sootblowers in the 3rd pass (convection pass) of the vertical boiler Nr. 2 were replaced by 2 Explosion Generators. In July 2009, the same adaption was carried out at boiler Nr. 1.
The increase of the boiler flue gas temperatures, especially at the inlet to the final superheater and at the boiler outlet is significantly reduced compared to the earlier operation with sootblowers.
Continuous boiler operation was maintained for a year without the necessity to clean the boiler by other means, neither online nor offline.
At earlier operation with soot blowers, additional intermittent online cleaning was necessary every 2-4 months.
The explosion frequency is set accordingly to the actual needs, in a range of 30-120 minutes.

Detail Information for Boiler 3 (Capacity: 16 MW):
In June 2009 the 8 pressurized air sootblowers in the 3rd pass (convection pass) of the vertical boiler were replaced by 2 Explosion Generators.
In November 2009 and February 2010 two additional EG10 were installed to further enhance the cleaning efficiency and to stop the shot cleaning system at the external economizer.
The boiler temperatures con now be kept at almost clean conditions, with periodical explosions every 30-240 minutes. 12 months continuous operation between two annual maintenance stops can be achieved
